One of the real treats in Gili Air, and island just off Lombok (east of Bali) was the condiment sambal made by our hosts from scratch. My Bahsa was nonexistant and their English was sketchy so I never was clear about the ingredients. The family said they were ethnic people that came from Burma centuries ago. Does anyone know about this?

Re: Sambal, Yum!
Wed, April 11, 2007 - 5:25 AMMy room mate, her boyfriend and several people I work with have had a lingering cold that they're having trouble shaking. I started feeling like I was coming down with it too. I took goldenseal, vitamin c, and two shot glasses of sambal. The next day all my symptoms were gone and haven't returned. I have always loved hot foods when I get a cold, because it at least clears your sinuses.
Anybody got any scientific facts about what hot foods do for your immune system?
